Infectious disease and health systems modeling
I build mathematical and computational models of infectious disease and health systems, mostly to answer questions someone outside the model needs settled — a health department, a legislative office, a programme deciding where to send what it has.
About
I'm a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Epidemiology of Microbial Diseases at Yale, Associate Director of the Center for Infectious Disease Modeling and Analysis, and affiliated faculty at the Yale Institute for Global Health.
I trained as a mathematician — applied maths at IIT Roorkee, then a PhD at Clemson on dengue transmission and vaccination — before moving into public health. That order still shapes how I work: start from the structure of the problem, then decide what the data can actually support.
Most projects begin with a question from someone who has to act on the answer. Getting from that question to an estimate that holds up — with the uncertainty carried through honestly, and delivered while the decision is still open — is the part I care most about.

Mentoring
I supervise postdoctoral, doctoral, master's, and undergraduate researchers at CIDMA, and serve as an external thesis advisor at BITS Pilani Goa. Where a trainee has done the work, they go first on the paper.
